Great blogs and teacher resources
http://www.alienteachers.com/ Impressive portfolio; topic based lesson plans often with an ethical theme. I've used a couple of his ideas in class with good results.
http://www.freetech4teachers.com/ by Richard Byrne. This is a great blog for sharing online resources complete with tutorials. Categories include Video Creation Resources, Creating Blogs and Websites, Favorite Resources, Educational Alternatives to YouTube, Google Tools Tutorials.
http://film-english.com/ by Kieran Donaghy. Donaghy's portfolio is quite interesting because he incorporates short films into his ESL lessons. Whether it's the theme of the film or the language used in the film, it is all relevant to learning English as a second language.
http://kimcofino.com/ by Kim Cofino.
http://suzannekarlbrigman.wordpress.com/ by Susan Karl-Brigman. This is a quite simple and clear portfolio, complete with resume, teaching philosophy and sample lesson plans for ESL teachers.
http://www.justintarte.com/ by Justin Tarte. His portfolio is one of the top 15 educators on twitter
http://amyburghardt.wordpress.com/ by Amy Burghardt.
http://sirkenrobinson.com Ken Robinson about changing education paradigms.

Prepositions of Place Picture Hunt
Hi,
Really easy game. Make a list of different places your students can go around to take pictures. This activity works best with teams. For example,
1. I am NEXT TO a black car.
The students find a black car and take a picture of one of them next to it.
Easy as that! Just make a list with other prepositions of place.

Modern Family as Video Aid
This program can be used to help teach ESL learners. Works better with subtitles.
I have used the several episodes as a video aid to teach different basic concepts.
Season 1 ep 1: Can be used to teach introductions and family tree.
Gear your questions towards family relationships.
Ex: Jays is Gloria's ____________________
Phil is Alex's _____________________
Season 1 ep 2: Can be used to talk about jobs and/or describing people.
ex: What does Phil do?
What does Cameron look like?
Season 1 ep 7: Can be used to talk about hobbies.
ex: What is Jay's hobby?
You can also highlight different vocabulary words that can studied by the students and used in their daily conversations to help them sound more fluent. Some explanation will be required.
Ex. ep1. Drama Queen.
If you watch different episodes, I'm sure you can come with different lessons. Adult and high school students really enjoy this program.

Penguin Game
A friend of mine ( Joel) came up with this game.
Beware it can get noisy and for whatever reason kids seem to love this game. Beats me, seems kinda dumb. ha
Draw a large square on the board. Within that square draw a path. At various points in the path draw some monsters. Whatever you able to. Spiders, snakes, dracula, bats, alligators, sharks, mummies...whatever.
At the beginning of the path you draw a penguin( or whatever animal you like) and at the end some sort of reward, gold, food, or maybe something for the students.
Here comes the point. It's a direction game for lower levels. UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT. Take the marker and start to dot your way through the maze. The kids shout out the direction the penguin has to go. They like it when the the dots go off the path and towards a monster. Give them a few near misses and pretend you can't hear them. Basically clown around with them. Easy game and they like it.
Anyways, another simple game that teaches them something and can fill up a few minutes at the end of the class.

Stop the Bus
Easy white board game to play
Write the full alphabet across the top of the board.
Place 5 or 6 categories below it. Example, Animals, Countries, Food, Sports, Movies..etc.
Then you can make teams or students can play individually.
The teacher will Say a letter and then pick a category.
Example: A....Animals. Build of a bit of drama with it. As you don't know which category it might be. Or you can make a wheel to spin. The students shout out "Stop the Bus" when they know an answer for the category and letter.
STOP THE BUS! ANT!....and they get a point. Not sure why it is called stop the bus as I have stolen this game from someone else and that is the name they gave it. Ha. You can come up with any expression you want.

Guess Who
Everyone knows that game Guess Who. However if you don't want to go out and by the game you can play on the board. Give you class 10 or 20 chances(depending on level) to guess the name of a person you have printed on a piece of paper or on a Powerpoint presention. Pictures are better than just having a name.
They can ask the persons sex, age, description, job..etc.
Is it a man? Yes
Is he from America? No
Is he from England? Yes
Does he have blue eyes? Yes
Does he play soccer? Yes
Is he __________? Yes
Very similar to 20 questions.
I have used a power point presentation with this game and it works great for all levels. I like using strange people or at least use bad pictures of the person so that the class laughs each time the picture pops up.
